Beginning individual counseling is a meaningful step, and we’re honored to walk alongside you as you explore what support looks like for your life. At Benjamin Counseling, we offer personalized, trauma‐informed care designed to help you make sense of your experiences, build resilience, and move toward lasting change. Our clinicians bring specialized training and
experience in supporting a wide range of individuals and life circumstances, including:

● Perinatal mental health — postpartum depression and anxiety, birth trauma, pregnancy loss, fertility challenges, and adjusting to new or shifting roles
● Individuals navigating neurodivergence, anxiety, OCD, trauma/complex trauma, gambling addiction, or substance use
● Women’s mental health, including identity development, life transitions, relationship patterns, and the emotional impact of societal and cultural pressures
● Eating disorders and disordered eating, with a focus on healing relationships with food, body image, and self‐worth
● Individuals with borderline traits, emotional dysregulation, or relational instability
● Families navigating the foster care system, including biological parents, foster parents, and kinship caregivers coping with uncertainty, grief, and complex family dynamics
● First responders and helping professionals — veterans, therapists, nurses,
physicians, police officers, firefighters, and others carrying the weight of “invisible scars”
● Individuals preparing for or recovering from bariatric surgery, including emotional, behavioral, and identity‐related adjustments
● College students and young adults facing transitions, identity exploration, academic pressures, and emerging adulthood

Our team includes multiple therapists with advanced training, allowing us to offer informed, compassionate support for the emotional complexities that can accompany a myriad of conditions. We are also deeply committed to our service of first responders and fellow clinicians. Through
specialized programs, including but not limited to, peer support training through the Alabama Fire College, we understand the unique stressors, trauma exposure, and expectations placed on those who care for others. Here, you have permission to pause, breathe, and be fully human. Let us support you so you can continue showing up for the people who depend on you. Whether you’re navigating a major life transition, healing from trauma, or simply seeking a space to understand yourself more fully, our unified goal is to create an environment where you feel valued, understood, and empowered to move forward with clarity and confidence.

Relationship Therapy

Interested in relationship therapy? You’re in the right place. Whether you’re feeling disconnected, stuck in the same arguments, or simply wanting to enrich the connection you already have, relationship counseling can offer the support and clarity you’re looking for.

Listed below are the most common reasons that our relationship services are sought:

  • Noticing challenges with communication, boundaries, connection, intimacy, or attachment

  • Feeling lonely in your relationship, unsure how to break unhealthy cycles, or frustrated that no matter what you try, things don’t seem to improve.

  • Things are “good,” but you want to invest in making the relationship even stronger.

  • “We used to feel like teammates but are beginning to feel like opponents” (a painful shift that can be repaired with the right support)

Our goal is to help you and your partner(s) reconnect as a team, understand each other more deeply, and build healthier patterns that support long‑term closeness and stability.

Benjamin Counseling is proud to have three therapists trained in evidence‑based practices for couples, ensuring that your relationship receives care grounded in proven methods for improving communication, strengthening emotional bonds, and repairing trust. These approaches help partners move out of reactive cycles and into more secure, supportive ways of relating.

We routinely work with individuals and partners who are dating, engaged, or married, as well as those navigating major life transitions or stressors that impact their relationships. We also welcome and affirm diverse relationship structures, including both monogamous and ethically non-monogamous partnerships.

No matter where you are in your relationship journey, we’re here to offer a supportive, non‑judgmental space where you can explore challenges, strengthen your connection, and move toward the kind of relationship you envision together.

Additional Services

Supervision Anchor

Supervision

I offer clinical supervision for developing counselors in the Birmingham area and surrounding communities. Supervision is a collaborative, growth‐oriented relationship, and I welcome an
initial meeting to determine whether we are a fit for one another. I also encourage sitting with multiple other supervisors during this stage to inform decision making in this area.

I utilize a developmental model of supervision, which means I meet you where you are, work towards accentuation of strengths, and promote growth experiences from this point. I work best
with Associates who are committed to ethical, client‐centered practice and who approach their professional development with a balance of intention, vigor, and authenticity. Ideal supervisees
tend to embody the following:

● Client‐focused in their approach
● Ethical and grounded in professional standards
● Self‐motivated and able to take initiative
● Eager for growth, feedback, and ongoing learning
● Punctual, consistent, and reliable in their commitments
● Professional in communication and conduct
● Warm and authentic in their interactions
● Capable of maintaining satisfactory documentation

My goal as a supervisor is to provide a supportive, honest, and steady environment where you can refine your clinical skills, deepen your self‐awareness, and develop confidence in your
professional identity. If this sounds like it aligns with your desired experience, I welcome the opportunity to explore whether we’re a good match.

Retreats

Benjamin Counseling is excited to collaborate with a variety of mental health advocates to offer themed retreats designed to support growth, reflection, and intentional living. These retreats
provide a unique opportunity to step away from daily demands and engage in skill‐building and psychoeducation within a safe, relaxing environment. While counseling does not take place during retreats, participants will receive guided education,
practical tools, and supportive experiences that can complement their personal wellness journey. If desired, referrals for individual therapy can be provided upon returning home.

Retreat themes vary. Past offerings have included Women’s Empowerment and Intentional Living, with new topics announced as they arise. We’re especially excited about our upcoming Mompreneurial Retreats, being curated for mothers balancing caregiving, identity, and entrepreneurship.

The most current retreat information will typically be available under the Retreats tab as details for such are solidified. To stay updated on new offerings, subscribe to our mailing list and include “Retreats” in the subject line.

If you’re a therapist, or allied professional, interested in hosting your own retreat, and would like support with planning or
coordination, we’re happy to help. Reach out to explore collaboration opportunities.

Consultation

Benjamin Counseling offers consultation services for clinicians seeking clarity, confidence, and direction in their professional journey. With over 15 years of experience in the field, I provide

● Wanting a collaborative space for case conceptualization or professional growth

In addition to practice‐building support, I offer specialized clinical consultation for therapists

Groups

Looking for a space that promotes a sense of community in the process of healing? Benjamin Counseling offers a supportive, collaborative space where individuals can learn, grow, and connect with others who share similar experiences. Our groups encompass psychoeducation and/or therapeutic processing, allowing participants to build practical skills while also exploring their thoughts and emotions in a safe, guided environment.

We offer a variety of groups throughout the year, each designed to foster insight, resilience, and community. Group themes may focus on emotional regulation, trauma‑informed skill building,

relationship patterns, identity development, postpartum, role transitions, and/or other areas of personal growth. Some groups are structured and educational, while others incorporate

therapeutic discussion and shared reflection.

Group counseling can be especially helpful for individuals who want to:

  • Build coping skills in a supportive setting

  • Reduce feelings of isolation

  • Expand community

  • Learn from others with similar experiences

  • Strengthen communication and relational awareness

  • Explore personal patterns in a safe, guided environment

Our group offerings vary, and new groups are added based on community needs and interest. Current and upcoming groups will be listed under the Groups tab on our website.

If you’re looking for connection, shared understanding, and a space to grow alongside others, group counseling may be a meaningful next step. We invite you to explore our offerings and reach out with any questions about fit or availability.
