Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need a referral to begin therapy?

No referral is required. You’re welcome to reach out directly to schedule or inquire about services. Email is the

preferred method of communication, as unscheduled calls are difficult due to being in sessions.

How do I know if therapy is right for me?

If you’re feeling stuck, overwhelmed, curious about personal growth, or simply wanting support, counseling can be a meaningful next step. Many people begin without knowing exactly what they need or want. We can figure out the next steps together.

What can I expect in the first session?

Your first session focuses on getting to know you, understanding your goals, and exploring what brought you to

therapy. It’s a chance for us to determine whether we’re a good fit and to outline next steps together.

How long are sessions, and how often will we meet?

Sessions typically last 53–55 minutes. Frequency varies based on your needs and goals, though many clients begin with weekly or bi‑weekly appointments.

Do you offer virtual sessions?

Yes, both virtual and in office sessions are available. Virtual sessions are available for clients residing throughout the state of Alabama.

How do I schedule an appointment?

You can contact us through our website or email address (info@benjamincounseling.org). Emails, or the

website form, are preferred for initial outreach as unscheduled calls are difficult due to being in sessions. Once received, we’ll guide you through the next steps and help you get scheduled.

Do you accept insurance?

Most commercial insurance carriers accepted. Private pay sessions are available absent the desire to utilize

insurance.

What insurance/EAPs do you accept?

We accept Blue Cross/Blue Shield, United Healthcare/Optum, Viva, Aetna, Cigna, Ulliance, American Behavioral, Lyra, and Spring Health. Our therapists’ insurance offerings vary. More info can be provided, and insurance verification may be conducted upon outreach

What if I’m unsure which therapist is the best fit?

We’re happy to help you find the right match. You can request a scheduled consultation or let us know what you’re looking for, and we’ll guide you toward the clinician who best aligns with your needs.

How long will I be in therapy?

Therapy is highly individualized. Some people come for short‑term support, while others require longer‑term work. We’ll check in regularly to ensure therapy continues to meet your needs.
